Opera Ithaca's sixth season opens with Giacomo Puccini's stirring tragedy, La bohème. A smash hit following its premiere at the Teatro Regio in 1896, La bohème has consistently ranked among the most performed and beloved operas in the repertoire. Its melodic score is full of pathos and the finely drawn characters pull at the heartstrings with their stores of love, art, ambition and ultimately, death. Opera Ithaca is proud to be co-producing La bohème with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, which is celebrating its 43rd season.

Cendrillon NEW YEAR'S EVE GALA

Composer:  Pauline Viardot

Director:  Norm Johnson

December 31st, 2019

Hangar Theatre, Ithaca, GALA PERFORMANCE*

Sung in English

Pauline Viardot's sparkling Cinderella story will be the perfect way to usher in the New Year. Cendrillon is a fascinating glimpse into the music of the highly-influential yet little known composer, singer and sister of Maria Malibran. Viardot's music is a shining example of the French tradition, though she came from a world-famous Spanish family of musical renown. With a brand-new English libretto by Artistic Director Ben Robinson, Cendrillon will be fun for the whole family!
