Young Artists

Duration: 6-Week Residency

September 21-November 2, 2020

Compensation: $350 per week, plus housing

Who should apply?

Typical applicants for Young Artist positions have completed advanced degrees from prominent collegiate programs and have participated in at least one major apprentice program. Young artists are on the verge of major careers and are seeking significant stage experience.

Program expectations

Young Artists will sing and/or cover major principal roles in the fall mainstage opera, participate in the Apprentice Artist Showcase, and a masterclass. Young Artists will also perform educational and marketing outreach, receive weekly coachings, and participate in classes offered by Opera Ithaca staff and guest artists.

Prescreening: Fill out the online application at www.operaithaca.org/competition-open. You are required to submit a video of three contrasting arias, as well as a headshot and resume.

Deadline for prescreening is January 24, 2020.

Auditions: If selected for an audition, you will be given ample time to prepare for a trip to Ithaca. For the live audition, you will prepare five contrasting arias.

Studio artists

Duration: 8-Month Residency

August 31-May 2, 2020

Compensation: $200 per month

Who should apply?

Typical applicants for Studio Artist positions have completed undergraduate or graduate programs in voice from a college or university in New York's Southern Tier. Studio Artists will need to provide their own housing.

Program expectations

Studio Artists will sing and/or cover secondary roles as appropriate in Opera Ithaca's 2020-2021 Season. Studio Artists will also perform educational and marketing outreach, and receive monthly coachings and mentorship from the Opera Ithaca staff and guest artists.
